The Summit High boys golf team is gearing up for a competitive season, facing challenging Front Range opponents. With a talented and closely-matched team, playing time isn't guaranteed, and the golfers will need to play their best to earn the chance to participate in more tournaments. The team is made up of 15 boys from all four grade levels, and the seniors are expected to lead the way. Parker Gray, Hunter Plummer, and Sawyer Coffman are standout players with a strong chance of qualifying for the state tournament. Other notable players include Jack Tobias, Jagger Roberts, Jaxx Roberts, and Fisher Woodard. The team will primarily travel to tournaments in the eastern half of the state, where there are more golfing facilities and longer seasons than in the High Country. This means that Front Range high schools will bring the Tigers some of their strongest competition. One Front Range tournament, hosted at the Air Force Academy’s Eisenhower Golf Club in Colorado Springs, will pose a particularly tough challenge for the Tigers. The Eisenhower Blue course is known for its tough greens, and the team will play against some of the best teams in the state. Other tough events for Summit High include a tournament hosted at the Collindale Golf Course in Fort Collins, which regularly hosts U.S. Open qualifiers, and a home tournament, hosted in Keystone, which the Tigers won last year. With a competitive season ahead, the golfers will need to focus on keeping a positive mindset and managing their expectations. Despite his high expectations for this season, Dobrota said his overall goal is for the Tigers to enjoy themselves on the green. He emphasized the importance of balancing competition with fun, as the ultimate goal is for the team to have a positive and enjoyable experience while still striving for excellence.
